Millenials

Being as my Pransome Hince and I are on the cusp of the Gen X/Millenial divide, we've never been quite sure as to where our generational loyalties should lie.

It's now becoming quite obvious, as we've cancelled our landline and don't miss it, scour the internet for ideas on everything from how to construct a swing to what to make for dinner, are more comfortable with e-mail than telephonic communication, and don't take in "the paper"(well, we DO get the Wall Street Journal, but it's delivered at the bottom of the hill, and thus, when we actually want to read the paper--on Saturday--, we make the treck down the steps and gather an armful of soggy back issues plus the one we actually want).

We had a group of late 30's-50's people over to dinner, and we were struck when they tried to get into contact with us using our old home phone number (we regretted to say we'd cancelled it) and asking us if we'd seen thus and such in the QCTimes (we apologized that we didn't subscribe).

I guess Millenials we be!

A crafty laundry list

Okay, here's some things that I really want to do.
I'd have added them to my bookmark list, but I have too many bookmarks, so I wouldn't be able to see the projects for the information if you know what I mean.

Anywho~

Delicious, Delicious Snow!

We finally made Snow Ice Cream! Chicken stirred the milk, sugar and vanilla together without spilling any.
Chicken Lu is excited to finally be making Snow Cream.

Boy is excited to finally be eating some.

Recipe

1 cup milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup sugar
5 cups clean snow

Mix together the top three ingredients, and then slowly pour over snow, "fluffing" it to mix without mushing it down.
I got everything from about.com

Our Trains

Lu and I decided to make paper doll trains today.

Joshua saw his sister's "dolly train" and said he wanted a "cutie train".
I tried to convince him to do something else, but he remained adamant. I'm glad he did.

I made one Mommy and cut it out, intending that since mommies have more "outline", I would make one mommy into a daddy. Just before I could convert all couples to created order, Lu said, "It looks like two mommies kissing!"

I quickly set about making the other "mommy" look like a daddy.

Smmmmmooooch!

Cream of What?

My mother-in-law, the queen of the remake ("you just toss in this, and these leftovers and Oh! lets get rid of this...") swears that all you have to do to resurrect old, cold, gummy Cream of Wheat is to add milk and heat.

Okay, Beth, you're on!

Euw. Cream of Rubber and milk. Highly unappetizing, but I'll add some leftover cream of wheat from yesterday morning, too, in true Beth fashion.
Hmm. Somehow I don't think that went quite right. I'm pretty sure it's still edible... maybe I'll just selflessly feed everyone else.

Where have all the periodicals gone?

I guess you know you're not mainstream enough when all your favorite periodicals get cancelled.

Last year, when Cottage Living and Mary Engelbriet's Home Companion were cancelled, I thought the cut backs were all over.  Phew!  At least Cookie made it.

Turns out, that was only the first wave.

Now I have to put up with Southern Living instead of Cottage, and Lucky instead of Cookie.  These are pale, pale substitues.  Now I have no design magazines that don't consider 2,000 square feet a small house, and no parenting magazines that don't try to tell me how not to discipline my kids.

I guess I must turn to blogs now, like the rest of Mom America.  I'm sure there are some good ones, but I'm tactile, people.  TACTILE!!!!!!!!!!

Now I get catalogues, which is dangerous.  I'm increasingly tempted by all white rooms and starting to consider $300 for a side table a good deal.
